This work relates to research that I undertook on graffiti
and its impact on society. I am interested in the responses
when people are affected by graffiti, be it directly on their
own fences, or just seeing it around their community. It is
a bone of contention for the majority of the public the graffiti
that cycles continuously, despite efforts to clean up these
acts.
Here
some possible verbal responses are stenciled around the canvas
in red (as a reference to how mad it makes people, ie that
makes my blood boil). Stencils can be found in the tool boxes
of not just graffiti artists, but also embroiderers and scrap
bookers as it offers a uniformity of text.
Underlining
this work are the beautiful marks often found in graffiti,
unnoticed, as frequently the words and symbols take centre
stage.
Who
holds court? But more importantly, who should hold court?
