Research

Without researching my ideas and materials, my work would be meaningless to me and not worthy of display. Reading, often ending up on tangents, and taking photographs for ideas and to back up my theories are major parts of my art practice.

Visual Research
The Visual Reseach page contains pictures of images that appeal to my sense of humour and "outside the square views" from my travels at home and afield. Mini artworks in themselves! Have a look if you want

References
I have listed a few books and bits of reading materials on the References page. They are a bit of an insight to me and thus how my works turn out. The more I read and research, the more I find ideas and inspiration for pieces and meaning in my work. If you are interested in my work and want to know more about how and where I get some ideas then by all means have a look.

Influential Artists
Part of my work is about looking at our past and hence other artists and their works are a great source of material to study. I like to keep track of who I have studied, and am really interested in, as it is good to acknowledge to myself their input in my work. Influences or just plain inspiration?

Quotes and Sayings
Over a cup of tea at a cafe, as seen in the local paper - I guess I am a bit of a magpie, collecting snippets of colloquial New Zealand language and phrases that we blurt out unconsciously. Sometimes I research their backgrounds; other times I use it as is - at face value in a piece, as it is part of who and what we are. The Quotes and Saying page contains my one liners for your information if you wish.
